It’s also on Playstation and PC through Steam. While you wait for a review, head to the Xbox Store and pick up an Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S version of the game for free. When there’s no barrier to trying it out, we clearly have a contender on our cards. Don't worry if you haven't signed up for the closed beta yet, though, as registrations are. The game's closed beta is now live until December 15, and it supports cross-play between all available platforms. This certainly looks fun, and all of the racers have chunky tin-toy looks that we can’t help but find attractive. Nexon is now giving players on PC, PS4 and Xbox One the chance to get behind the wheel of its upcoming free-to-play racer KartRider: Drift. But obviously we’ll be judging that ourselves in an upcoming review. There are “no barriers, no pay walls, and no pay-to-win elements preventing you from having a great time while topping the leaderboards”, says the accompanying press materials. We would personally worry that a free-to-play karting game would lock essentials like tracks, racers or even pay-to-win elements behind paywalls, but KartRider: Drift is making good noises. There are some positive things that have been said about the free-to-play aspects, too. Then there are drift or item-based races, so you can make your experience more racing or karting-flavoured.

There is room for eight players to play KartRider: Drift, and they can be split into four teams if you fancy some fist-bumping as you race around the track. It's currently scheduled for a full launch on PC and Xbox this year and PS4 next year, although Nexon has not given a specific date yet.Available right now as a free-to-play title on Xbox, PlayStation, PC and mobile, Kartrider: Drift is certainly getting the basics right. Both the game and the beta test will likely be playable on PS5 through backwards compatibility.

Nexon states that sign-ups for the beta will be live soon on its website. Speed Mode, on the other hand, stresses quick driving and building boosts.

Item Mode features team-based competitions where items on tracks allow players to attack and defend. It'll have two modes, seven playable characters, and a variety of customization options enabled. The closed beta for the title will go live on PS4 on December 8. This new title is also in development for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, and it'll support cross-play and cross-progression across all platforms. The only limitation for the open beta will be on iOS. KartRider: Drift is the latest in a series of kart racers that dates all the way back to 2004 with Crazyracing Kartrider, which was available primarily in Southeast Asia. The open beta will be playable on PC, iOS, Android, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

The free-to-play title will also be getting a beta test in December. Nexon will host a second closed beta test for KartRider: Drift across Xbox One and PC via Steam and the Nexon Launcher starting June 3, the developer announced. Nexon's upcoming kart-racing game, KartRider: Drift, is coming to PS4, PlayStation announced during its State of Play today.
